It is not uncommon to hear children or animals being locked out in cars mistakenly.
Some parents forget their kids inside the vehicles while some leave the car on with fan but not the A.C.
In these cases, the child either suffers from the excessive heat trapped in the vehicle or suffocation caused due to closed windows.
And sometimes, they are even found dead. It would be any mother’s horror to find her child exhausted after being trapped inside the car.
But this Tuesday, a mother purposely left her four-year-old son in scorching heat, locked inside her car in Utah Park.
Jessica Lee Brown, 28, left her four-year-old in the car as punishment with the temperature being 82 degrees Fahrenheit outside. The vehicle was neither turned on nor unlocked.
Draper City Police discovered the car with the child locked inside while on a welfare check. The authorities were reported at about 9 pm. Brown was arrested for child endangerment and child abuse after the incident.
Police stated in the arrest affidavit that the vehicle wasn’t on at the time they arrived and that the temperature outside was close to 82 degrees Fahrenheit. An assisting officer reported that the four-year-old was found sweating, had red eyes and a hot forehead to touch.
Admitting to the police of her merciless deed, Brown revealed that her son wasn’t behaving properly due to which she put him inside the locked car. She also accepted that she was aware that no one except the boy was in the vehicle.
The mother has also admitted to using meth and heroin to the police. After attaining permissions to search her bag, authorities found a syringe, as stated in the arrest affidavit. Other drug apparatus that was consistent to heroin use was also discovered at the scene. The mother told police that the apparatus was unused.
For how long the child was locked inside the vehicle is unknown.
