A young pup has mastered walking thanks to a revolutionary therapy after being born with dysfunctional legs that would get him nowhere.
The efforts to bring the dog, also known as Swimmer, on his feet were brought to life by a dog rehabilitation center called Canine Country Club.
In the footage shared by Ash Animal Rescue, the pup from Wicklow, Ireland, is seen walking across an underwater treadmill which helped him learn how to walk unaided.
“His bones are delicate, his joints are fine, but there is little strength in the soft tissues around the joints,” the rescue center wrote. “So it was decided that he would benefit from hydrotherapy.”
Hydrotherapy is a technique that allows beings, including humans, to (re)train their muscles in a ‘weightless’ environment due to them being in the water.
Thanks to the underwater treadmill, Swimmer was able to improve his joint movements and tone his muscles without applying excessive force that could further damage his already weak tissues.
Besides Swimmer’s case, different types of water treatments have helped millions of dogs, as well as other animals and humans, recover after conditions such as hip dysplasia.
Hydrotherapy can also be utilized when dealing with joint pain or swelling caused by old age.
Thanks to the Canine Country Club, Swimmer can now walk unassisted and is ready to take on the world with his paws!
