The funeral home posted on Facebook announcing the arrival of the newest employee.

“Say hello to Mochi, the newest member of Macon Funeral Home! She’s an eight-week-old Bernese Mountain Dog who loves people and loves to sleep,” read the caption along with a photo of a sleeping Mochi.

McKay also said that she wanted a Bernese mountain dog as a grief therapy dog as “They have a history of being excellent therapy and support dogs, which comes from their kind disposition and laid-back personalities.”

She hopes that the adorable pup will comfort grieving families. “Bernese Mountain Dogs do not have long life expectancies — six to eight years is typical — and I want her life to hold as much purpose as possible,” McKay said.

She will be sending Mochi to North Carolina when she’s 6 months to one year old to have proper training.

One Facebook user commented: “We had a very similar dog. She was a Newfoundland and was a gentle giant. Our dog grew to 140 lbs. Mochi has beautiful coloring and will provide much happiness to people who need it. You can tell by her paws that she is going to be a big beautiful girl. ENJOY!”

Another wrote: “Mochi is sure to bring a smile to any grieving person. Berners are great Lovers & therapy for ANYONE.”

A third added: “This is a fantastic idea, but this would add to my grief. I would be upset to see what I imagine is a breeder dog when there are animals killed in shelters for lack of homes.”
