An adorable little puppy had his leg amputated after he was delivered to his new family by a breeder who denied any wrongdoing.

Gus the Chow Chow was just 10 weeks old when he was purchased by a family from Essex, UK, after they saw an advertisement for the pup online.

As the family revealed, the puppy was wrapped in a towel when he was delivered to them back in December. While the family grew suspicious of the pup’s health after seeing him struggle to walk, the breeder maintained innocence and refused to take the puppy back.

Unable to pay for the vet and the treatment required, the family then decided to give Gus to Dogs Trust Basildon Rehoming Centre where he is now undergoing rehabilitation following the necessary amputation of his right front leg.

“Gus’s owners told us that they called the breeder who denied there was anything wrong with him, and refused to take him back, or help,” the center’s manager, Lisa Cooper, explained.

“They took Gus to a vet who told them that the problem with his leg was so severe that it would need to be amputated or he would have to be put to sleep.

“They couldn’t afford the unexpected veterinary care he needed, but they also couldn’t bear the alternative. That’s when they did the best thing they could do for Gus and called Dogs Trust for help.”

After the center had the pup examined, an x-ray revealed that his deformed leg could not be saved and that amputation was necessary to save his life.

Gus is currently recovering from his surgery and is not yet available for adoption. Hopefully, the puppy will find a forever home soon!
