This German shepherd owned by Shelby Mayo, who is reported to be forever puppy-sized is two years old! Well, it doesn’t seem so that he is aged two years!
But, Ranger has the genetic condition better referred to as pituitary dwarfism. This condition has caused his small-statured, permanently!
This condition can appear in this particular dog breed that results in recessive gene inheritance or ‘autosomal recessive inheritance’. That’s what the reports shed light on.
The owner was told that she had already known that her pet happened to be the runt of the litter! But she never expected that it would stay small-sized forever and permanently!
They originally thought that he just happened to be smaller than other dogs in the species.
The vet then suspected that this dog might have any condition, like pituitary dwarfism! So after a couple of months, they got neutered for him and that is when they saw the big change happening!
He lost his appetite and gradually started losing weight! Vets diagnosed thyroid problem in the dog.
Researchers from Netherlands’ Utrecht University pointed out that pituitary dwarfism happens to be the condition causing a number of health problems including behavioral and developmental problems in German Shepherds.
It even shortens the lifespan of the pet!
Nevertheless, Mayo has also reassured that Ranger is currently doing great! With her reassuring statement, it seems that he is happier and healthier now!
From her statement, it is evident that the dog is having a fun time jumping around and even playing with the ball & squeaky toys with Jessie and Hazel, the two sisters!
