We all know that the modern dogs that we so adore and love were once more closely related to wolves.

So we can imagine that before dogs and humans forged their eternal bond, dogs needed to hunt for their own food, much like wolves still do to this day.

In fact, during the early days, dogs mostly assisted humans by helping our ancestors hunt down prey in order to have something to put on the dinner table. Back then, dogs still probably had to hunt in order to supplement whatever meager leftovers their human owners may have fed them. After all, food security was much more precarious than it is today which is why our forebears were walking a thin line between famine and plenty.

But all relationships evolved and the one between humans and their dogs was no exception. Slowly, dogs slowly became less of an animal valued for their utility (though they do still fulfill that role admirably) and graduated more into the ranks of becoming a family member. Yet that’s not the only thing that has changed.

As dogs became more domesticated, they also became more dependent on the care of their human owners. This includes such basics as food and shelter but also other important stuff like visits to the veterinarian and toys to pass the time. Fearless hunters these modern dogs are not!

Even if dogs are mostly dependent on their owners to be fed, this doesn’t mean that they haven’t learned new tricks in order to put food in the bellies, like this adorable puppy shows.

This little guy is only a puppy but he has already mastered the most important trick of all, which is to beg for food when it’s dinnertime! We can see him carrying his bowl over and depositing it in front of his owner, a not so subtle sign that it’s time for him to be fed. But just to be sure, he shoots an adorably imploring look at his owner.

In fact, the owner jokingly asks his little buddy, “Are you hungry? Is that what this is?”

And you can even see the puppy nod his head a few times as if to say, “Yes! It should be obvious!”

If you had any doubts about whether dogs make someone’s day brighter, this video will definitely dispel those doubts.
