A lawyer for QAnon Shaman defends his client for calling pro-Donald Trump rioters “f**king r*tards”.
Attorney Albert Watkins attempts to justify the slur, saying that the insult was a part of his plan for “long standing please for compassion and understanding of those involved in the events of January 6 with mental health issues and disabilities have to date fallen on deaf ears.”
Watkins states that he has “acted professionally. I made sure that the Department of Justice had the opportunity firsthand to meet with my client.” He also claimed that Chansley, one of the main MAGA rioters during the January 6 incident, had a vulnerable mind by following former president, Donald Trump, and his tweets on social media.
Pictured above is Chansley, wearing a horned hat with the colors of the country painted on his face. He has been arrested since then, and remains in custody alongside his six charges that are related to the riot.
The attorney states that Chansley’s mind was “slipping away from him” and that his client’s records demonstrate “concern for the mental health and well-being” of Chansley.
Atkins adds that Chansley was helping the police on the day that he had stormed through the Capitol, collecting items that had been stolen from them and tried to stop a theft in the process.
The lawyer has been slammed by having controversy with using words to describe people having “brain damage” with the slur that he has defended.
In an interview, Watkins explicitly states that they’re [Capitol Riot Demonstrators] “f**king short-bus people.
These are people with brain damage, they’re f***ing retard*d, they’re on the goddamn spectrum.F**k, they were subjected to four-plus years of goddamn propoganda the likes of which the world has not seen since f***ing Hitler.
”By pointing it out, he tried to “respectfully address the reality that we have people that are vulnerable, mentally infirm, they do have issues.”
He wants people to know the reality of the riots, that people are vulnerable and “susceptible” to Donald Trump’s words. Since they are vulnerable, he calls them an “incessant drivel that was being poured upon them out of tweets… out of the mouth of our former president and all of the social media that went with it.”
Chansley had come into the Capitol, flying in with his spear and saying obnoxious things, Cuomo assumes, and Watkins replies that it’s a “mischaracterization.” He says that his misdemeanors and actions were caused by Trump.
