The Queen told Meghan Markle that she ‘understands’ why the Duchess of Sussex hasn’t flown to Britain to attend Prince Philip’s funeral, a source told People magazine.
According to the source, Meghan ‘wanted’ to fly from the US to Britain to attend the service at St. George’s Chapel but her physician advised her not to take the ten-hour flight.
Her husband Prince Harry is currently staying at Frogmore Cottage to quarantine for five days before the duke of Edinburgh’s funeral.
A source in California said that the Queen told Meghan that she ‘understands’ why she did not come with Harry.
It was also revealed that she and her husband were ‘in contact with the Queen’ after the tragic news of Prince Philip’s death.
The source also said that it was “always a given that Harry would return to England for his grandfather’s passing” and that his wife had “expressed condolences” when speaking with the 94-year-old monarch.
The Duke of Sussex landed at London Heathrow Airport via a BA flight from LA, making the trip his first back to Britain since the tell-all Oprah interview.
Meghan is remaining in their California mansion with their one-year-old son Archie. She is heavily pregnant with Harry’s second child.
One of Meghan’s friends told Daily Mail that she is “ready to forgive” the royal family despite claiming that they were racist towards her son and ignored her claims that she was experiencing suicidal thoughts.
Hours after landing in the UK, Harry paid tribute to his grandfather, calling him a “master of the barbecue, legend of banter, and cheeky right til the end.”
According to reports, Harry is unlikely to wear an Army uniform during the funeral after being stripped of his military roles when he and Meghan quit their royal duties.
