While US-based supporters of the couple insisted that Meghan and Harry asked the Queen for permission before naming their daughter Lilibet, a BBC report said the Sussexes failed to ask Her Majesty for permission to use the name.

Following the BBC report, Meghan and Harry’s lawyers took legal action against the “false and defamatory” story.

While the report said one thing and Sussexes the other, a Royal insider claimed that the conversation about the name that Harry had with the Queen was “a telling, not an asking,” The Mail reports.

To counter “mistruths,” the Queen has finally decided to break her silence by assigning courtiers to correct false statements made about the private conversations she or other Royals have.

“This is about whether or not what is being reported is an accurate version of what actually happened,” an insider said.

The decision to speak out comes amid the transatlantic feud between publications following Meghan and Harry’s decision to name their daughter Lilibet. Lilibet was the nickname the Queen was given by her grandfather, King George V, who tried to imitate her failed attempts at pronouncing her name. Her Majesty was often also called Lilibet by her late husband, Prince Philip.

“The Duke spoke with his family in advance of the announcement. In fact, his grandmother was the first family member he called. During that conversation, he shared their hope of naming Lilibet in her honor. Had she not been supportive, they would not have used the name,” Meghan and Harry’s spokesperson insisted.
