Gordon Ramsay isn’t just famous for his cooking. His straight-talking is also something which frequently brings the famed chef to spotlight.
Turns out, Ramsay is more straight-talking towards his own kids as compared to anyone else.
The chef has famously told his kids to ‘f— off to another chef’ if they want to pursue a career in the restaurant industry and follow in the footsteps of their father.
In a recent interview with a US radio station, the British chef revealed how he has forbidden his four kids – Megan, 21, Holly and Jack, 19, and Matilda, 17 – to seek a job with him.
“I’m firm, I’m fair and I will give you everything I’ve got to get you to the very top,” he said.
“And that’s it, no b——-. I take a lot of flak for being straight and honest, but I’m not worried about that f—— snowflake generation.
“It’s like not employing the kids. I don’t want the staff thinking, ‘F— it’s Ramsay’s kid, we can’t tell them off.’
“You want to work in this business? You f— off to another chef, learn something different and come back with something new to improve the business.”
While Ramsay may be a hard towards his kids, he is extremely welcoming to other youngsters who want to make a name in the hospitality industry.
For instance, when a 17-year-old tweeted Ramsay about how he wanted to enter the restaurant industry, the chef gave an overwhelming response to the teen.
“I’m 17 and I really like cooking, though I don’t really know how to cook,” the youngster wrote to Ramsay. “I was thinking of pursuing my dream of being a cook but kind of scared of what my dad will think.”
The Scottish-born chef replied: “Always follow your dreams! Don’t worry I’ll tell your dad!”
The fortunate teen wrote back: “Thank you Chef Gordon you’re a great role model. And thanks to everyone else who responded, this made me want to pursue my dream even more.”
