A rare ginger fur seal pup has been spotted in the Sea of Okhotsk in Russia.
But experts are worried that its bizarre coloring might lead to the animal getting avoided by its fellow seals.
The seal stands out from its colony with its beautiful ginger fur, pink flippers, and blue eyes.
However, experts say there are signs that the rare seal pup is being shunned by other seals.
Biologist Vladimir Burkanov said: “This pup looks well fed and was very active, so its mother clearly gave it plenty of milk.
“Other seals don’t pay too much attention to it in a somewhat worrying manner, so something is not quite right with it.
“But it is not getting chased or bitten.”
Dr. Burkanov said that the seal is thought to have bad eyesight and it is unlikely it will breed.
Wildlife specialists are ready to rescue the seal pup and take it to a dolphinarium if it does end up being completely rejected by others.
But this is not bad news as another similar-looking seal is known to have grown up in Severo-Zapadnoe rookery on Bering Island.
“He did not participate in reproduction this season and was seen on the bachelor section of the rookery only,” Dr. Burkanov said.
“Perhaps, this is the first documented case of the survival of a northern fur seal of an abnormal colour to adulthood.”
