Racism is, sadly, still very much present in various forms and places.

As Emmit Walker, a DC-based music executive, found out, flying while ‘black’ can also be a big deal for some people.

One day, Emmit was on an airport waiting in a ‘priority boarding’ line when a racist woman approached him with insensitive comments. Trying to cut in front of him, the fellow passenger told him to let her through, as she was, just by looking at him, confident that he doesn’t belong in the priority line.

Fortunately, Emmit wasn’t ready to give in. Instead, he came up with a perfect response.

Embarrassed in front of the crowd of people, the woman looked down in shame after she was finally silenced.

While Emmit’s story reminds us how casual instances can quickly catch a racist twist, it also teaches us about the importance to stand up against those whose goal is to devalue us.
