The Lion King fans have been sharing their enthusiasm on social media after discovering a real-life scar in a national park in Kenya.
Benna the Lion is a one-eyed, battle-scarred lion who suffered severe injuries to his face after a brawl with one of his rivals that nearly cost him his life.
The resemblance of the lion to the main antagonist of the movie Lion King, Scar, was first brought to attention by Fabrizio Bignotti who flew from Milan, Italy, to Kenya to visit the Maasai Mara national park.
In the park, the amateur photographer came across Benna and instantly thought of the Lion King character named Scar because of the animal’s scar across the left side of his face.
“He is a crazy looking lion, but he is very sweet. He lost one eye because of a brutal fight,” the 55-year-old said.
“Many people think male lions have an easy life because the lionesses provide the food. People think they sit around and sleep all day, and sometimes they do.
“But most of the time they are patrolling to defend their territory and protect the pride – I remember this particular pride had seven cubs and two lionesses.
“The males end up in fights with other lions that want to take the lionesses.”
The mesmerizing pictures follow weeks after the well-anticipated airing of Disney’s live-action remake of the classic animated film from 1994.
The film dominated the screens and racked up over $450 million globally over a single weekend.
