Nine fellow officers decided to grab food at a local Red Robin afterwards, and were seated in Jessica Dunbar’s section. Noticing that the officers were in a solemn mood, Jessica approached their table and asked if they had a bad day. Their reply?

“It’s always a rough day when you’ve gotta put a brother in the ground.”

That’s when she realized that the officers were just at the highly publicized funeral.

What the officers didn’t know was that their server knew the fear of losing a family member in the line of duty. She watched her mother cope every day with the thought of her father, who was a police officer himself, not coming home after working a day on the force. She knew she had to do something to honor the recently deceased.

So, when the bill came — a total of 123 dollars — they were stunned to see it had already been paid. It wasn’t until they flipped the bill over did the realize who picked up the check.

“Your bill is on me today. I can’t imagine the day you all have had, let alone what you go through every day. I hope your days get better. So much respect. #WeSeeYou #PoliceLivesMatter #RIPOfficerSmith”

“I just wanted to do something nice,” Dunbar said. “You can’t put a dollar amount on making somebody happy.”

What an incredible story!
