Representative AOC has blamed racism for the suspension of US sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson after the American athlete was recently suspended for testing positive for cannabis.
Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez was quick to slam the IOC for putting forward such a harsh stance against the country’s fastest sprinter after she failed her recent drug test. Richardson tested positive for marijuana and admitted to her mistake by sending a message via Twitter which explained how she is ‘only human’.
Moreover, the sprinter also mentioned how she faced some real low moments after her mother’s recent death and hence did in fact smoke the banned substance.
“We really appreciate her honesty regarding this matter and will therefore continue to support her during this time,” AOC concluded. In the same way, the Representative spoke about how the decision to bar her from taking part in the upcoming Tokyo games was not fair and an act of racism.
AOC went further to put the blame on anti-cannabis laws which she blatantly referred to as racism and a true instrument relating to colonial policy.
Similarly, AOC also went ahead and slammed the International Swimming Federation who recently barred ‘afro hair’ swimming caps from all major sports competitions including the upcoming Olympic games.
Meanwhile, Nike which has always backed up the US sprinter issued a statement where they declared their thorough support for Sha’Carri while vowing to stand by her side. The 100M sprinter qualified for the Olympics in Oregon last month, just a few weeks after her mum passed away, confirmed reports.
Speaking for a recent interview with NBC, Richardson admitted to her mistake and apologized for her behavior. She also spoke about how she was facing a state of emotional panic when she used the toxic substance, right before her trials in Oregon last month.
But what does a positive marijuana test mean? Well, experts confirmed how it will put forward a 30-day suspension, which will eventually prevent her from taking part in the 100-meter dash race in Tokyo, which is scheduled to take place on the 29th of this month of July.
