A good Samaritan has traveled over 1,000 miles to save an abandoned dog and bring him back to its real owner.
Zimba the Pit Bull was found wandering around Maryland and was later on passed into the care of the Caroline County Human Society.
After checking his microchip, the staffs were shocked to learn that the abandoned pup was originally from Kansas, some 1,260 miles away.
Soon enough, the rescuers also found out who the owner of the pooch is and discovered that Zimba was taken on a road trip by the owner’s now-ex-boyfriend.
While the bitter man was on vacation with his mother and his then-girlfriend’s dog, the pair broke up, and the boyfriend dumped the dog in the middle of Maryland with complete disregard for its well-being.
According to CBS Local Baltimore, the boyfriend refused to talk with his girlfriend and failed to provide her with information about her dog.
Fortunately, Caroline County Human Society informed the heartbroken woman that her dog was found.
Unfortunately, however, she had no idea how to travel 1,260 miles away and pick him up.
That’s when a Good Samaritan stepped in and offered help. Zach Holt, an animal lover who used to work at the Caroline County Human Society shelter where Zimba was located, offered to pick up the pup and bring him back to his rightful owner.
“Zimba … safe and content. We would like to once again thank all of you who have followed, supported, donated and cheered on Zach and Zimba during their awesome adventure,” Caroline County Humane Society wrote on Facebook.
“And, of course, we can never thank Zach enough for driving all the way from Ridgely, MD to Wichita, KS to make one family’s…. and one dog’s… Christmas wish come true. There truly is no place like home.
“Hopefully we can all take a lesson from this… as Zach said in his interview, using the words of his friend Ben Cahall…. we should all JUST TRY. We can all make a difference. No matter how large or how small.
“And remember: microchips do work! Zimba would never have found his way home without his…and his mom had properly registered it and kept information current! Happy life, Zimba! Safe travels home, Zach Holt!”
