In an attempt to avoid the chance of contacting the coronavirus, people commuting in London are using gas masks, plastic bags and boxes to shield themselves.
Due to the virus-caused panic in London, people are using bizarre ways to fend off the killer disease.
Photos have emerged on social media, showing people who use public transport wearing a whole lot of odd stuff to be free of the virus.
At Milton Keynes station, a commuter was caught on the film wearing a heavy-duty gas mask. And he was not alone.
Riding a crowded bus through London, a woman was snapped using a plastic storage container to avoid any possible contact with the virus.
The innovations Londoners are coming up with don’t stop there. People were seen wearing things as strange as Tesco bags on their heads.
Some were also seen wearing rubber gloves while scanning the morning newspaper on their commute to work.
Trying to avoid every last possibility of being near the virus, the people of London have bought every last piece of protective equipment from the shelves of pharmacies and superstores.
However, experts have opined that gas facial masks have little to no ability to stop the virus, especially when not worn the right way.
According to Professor Chris Whitty, the health chief of the capital city, people who have to interact with others while commuting or shopping can only have a “little effect” on decreasing the chances of getting the virus.
According to the instructions issued by the World Health Organization, healthy people are only supposed to be wearing masks when they are taking care of someone with the symptoms of the disease.
For the people who have been confirmed to have coronavirus or those who are not healthy after their return from an affected area are advised to avoid being in the public as much as they can, regardless of wearing or not wearing a mask.
The panic has come after the explosive rise in corona cases in the UK. The number has spiked to 86 in less than a day, the highest rate of the increase of virus so far.
Of the confirmed coronavirus cases in the UK, three people have contacted the virus from within the country and health experts are fearing that a “significant pandemic” might just be a few weeks away.
Professor Whitty added: “29 patients were diagnosed who had recently traveled from recognized countries or from recognized clusters which were under investigation.
“Three additional patients contracted the virus in the UK and it is not yet clear whether they contracted it directly or indirectly from an individual who had recently returned from abroad.
“This is being investigated and contact tracing has begun.”
