A Korean restaurant in Australia is going through disciplinary action after the restaurant served eighty-six shots to a group of five people.
Sidney’s Haru Fusion Soju Lounge served the group a whopping 86 standard drinks of soju in six hours, alleged New South Wales police.
Two out of the group were found passing out on pavement and road outside the lounge.
NSW Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority has charged a strike against the restaurant as part of the government’s 3 strikes disciplinary scheme. Further action like shortening its trading hours is also being considered.
A group of two women and three men were celebrating a birth anniversary at the eatery since early hours of 11 October. The police arrived at 1:35 a.m. and found one woman passed out in a puddle of vomit and a man near her, also covered in vomit.
The man fainted on the road originally but was transferred to the pavement by road workers. Eventually, the pair was taken to the hospital in an ambulance.
The CCTV footage of the lounge shows one of the group members collapsing into a table after he lost his balance.
The footage also shows a staff member walking past another member as they sleep on a table and a passed out woman could be seen being carried out of the eatery.
The chairman of the NSW Liquor and Gaming Authority, Philip Crawford, said a number of sanctions can be imposed on the lounge.
He said that it is unbelievable that the restaurant served such a huge amount of alcohol to just five members and did not take any actions to prevent extreme intoxication.
He added that the incident is a life-threatening one, which is intolerable. If the group was unconscious from consuming too much alcohol, then that is a serious breach of the reliable services of alcohol regulations.
