Restaurant workers have been under fire after pictures in which they were seen preparing sandwiches on top of a trash can emerged and spread on social media.
The restaurant in question is Popeyes, whereas several workers were caught on camera preparing their signature chicken sandwiches on top of the trash.
The incident occurred at the fast-food chain’s branch in Fairfax, Virginia, that has allegedly only been opened for days when the picture was taken.
In an interview with TMZ, the owner of the branch claimed that they have already purchased a new table for making the chicken sandwiches.
In addition, he claimed the incident only occurred on the day they were understaffed and received a large order of 100 sandwiches to deal with.
The business owner has also insisted that the trash bin was empty at the time of the preparation of sandwiches.
“We are aware of the incident, and the actions that took place clearly do not meet our standards for food service and preparation,” Popeyes representative said in an interview with DailyMail.com
“We have already addressed the situation with the restaurant owner who is looking into the matter.”
In another recent incident, a Singapore-based restaurant was slammed by animal rights activists for installing a ‘grab-a-crab’ claw machine with live crabs inside.
While some people appreciated the idea to have the chance to select their own meal in a very fresh form, animal rights groups quickly slammed the machines and encouraged people to avoid causing “unnecessary harm” to the crabs.
Following public outrage, the CEO of the House of Seafood apologized for incorporating Grab-A-Crab machine into their business.

Following the backlash, the restaurant kept the Grab-A-Crab claw machine in business but replaced live crabs with vacuum-sealed processed crabs.
