A big reward is being offered to anyone who can free a crocodile from a tire.
The poor reptile has been living with the tire for four years but its growing body means it will eventually choke to death.
It was first seen in the Palu River in 2016 but nobody wanted to free the crocodile. It has even survived a tsunami and an earthquake but the tire is still intact.
Central Sulawesi’s Natural Resources Conservation Agency has launched an appeal for someone to remove the tire.
“A reward will be given to anyone who can release the hapless reptile,” said agency boss Hasmuni Hasmar.
“We’re asking the general public not to get close to the crocodile or disturb its habitat.”
People have previously tried to save the reptile but no one was successful enough to free it from its accessory.
Muhammad Panji, a self-professed animal whisperer and a conservationist, attempted to do it in 2018. Unfortunately, his animal whispering talents are not strong enough to help the crocodile.
That same year, many volunteers attempted to lure the animal to the dry land by placing some chickens as bait. However, the reptile didn’t show any interest.
According to local reports, the tire came from a scooter that was thrown into the estuary. Officials are getting worried that the crocodile will pass away if the tire is not removed as soon as possible.
“Its body is getting bigger and the tyre which should be 14 inches, is stifling it,” said an official from the agency.
“If the tyre is not removed immediately, it will strangle the crocodile because of its growing body.”
