The creation of giant murals dates back to 1993 when the practice of rice paddy art started after the first creation of its kind. At the time, Mt. Iwaki was illustrated using green, yellow, and purple rice sorts.

As the experts on the matter have explained, the unique crop art utilizes no artificial dyes and relies solely on placing different colors of rice on the field strategically.

After the plants grow, enormous murals and depictions of entities or places form. While the designs can’t be viewed well from the ground due to their size, they are perfectly visible from high above, making a nearby tower an ideal spot for picture-taking.
