Members of one of the most notorious gangs in New Zealand have been seen consoling one another after the deadly Christchurch attack as Jacinda Ardern paid a visit to the families of the victims.
According to authorities, at least 49 people were killed in the terror attack on Friday and more than 40 are in the hospital facing serious injuries.
Out of them, at least 11 people are in critical condition.
Following the mosque massacre, people across the country have come together to honor the worshipers, who were shot in a defenseless state by Brenton Tarrant, an Australian citizen.
Among the people who arrived at Hagley College, in Christchurch, to meet the survivors and the families of the victims, were the members of an extremely notorious street gang, the Mongrel Mob.
According to reports, the rival factions within the gang came together to support the victims of the terror attack, ignoring the bitter rivalry and enmity among them.
Mongrel Mob is a highly organized street gang spread across New Zealand.
Dressed in t-shirts, vests, and jackets with the mongrel logo, the members of the gang were seen consoling other mourners at Hagley College on Saturday afternoon.
Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern also arrived at about 1 pm to meet the survivors and mourners, as well as the family members of the victims.
Ardern, who was wearing a black headscarf to show her respect to the Muslim community, then visited Canterbury Refugee Center in Christchurch.
She told reporters that the authorities will soon return the victims to their families.
‘Hagley Park, very much the focus on them was being able to access their loved ones,’ the Prime Minister said. ‘Front of mind for them, of course, is fulfilling their religious expectations and that is burial.’
At the refugee center, she also spoke with the Muslim leaders.
She said: ‘At the meeting at the refugee center, their community leaders shared the same sentiment that has come through from New Zealanders generally that.’
‘This is not the New Zealand they know.
‘This is not the New Zealand that has welcomed them and that it is not a reflection of the New Zealand they know, and that sentiment came through very strongly.’
Ardern will now visit the hospital where around 40 people are under treatment.
