WWE legend Joseph Michael Laurinaitis, who is better known by his stage name Road Warrior Animal, has passed away at the age of 60.
The legendary fighter’s death follows 12 days after his 60th birthday and just one day after he appeared in Sportskeeda’s Legion of Raw podcast and opened up about the reasons why the new WWE faction known as Retribution is failing to connect with its fans.
On the day after his podcast appearance, the 60-year-old wrestler’s death was confirmed in a statement shared on his Twitter account.
“At this time, we would like to confirm the passing of Joseph Laurinaitis aka Road Warrior Animal at the age of 60,” the statement read.
“The family is planning to release a statement later today. At this time we ask for you to keep everyone in your thoughts and prayers. #OhWhatARush”
Following the death of Road Warrior Animal, who was a part of the Legion of Doom tag-team together with WWE star Road Warrior Hawk, WWE dubbed the fighter “one of the most intense Superstars to ever step into the squared circle.”
“WWE is saddened to learn that Joe Laurinaitis, known to WWE fans as Road Warrior Animal, has passed away. WWE extends its condolences to Laurinaitis’ family, friends and fans,” the entertainment organization wrote in a statement.
Paying a tribute to the legendary wrestling star were also dozens of other professional wrestlers including Hulk Hogan who called Animal his brother.
“RIP Animal, love you my brother, I know you and Hawk have a lot of unfinished business to take care of! God speed and blessings to your beautiful family, one love4Life,” the renowned TV personality wrote in his tribute.
Animal was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame back in 2011 along with his partner Hawk who died in 2003. May he rest in peace.
