Surveillance cameras caught a thief robbing a woman at the ATM.
He immediately felt guilty and returned the money.
The CCTV footage shared by China Global Television Network (CGTN) showed the robber, armed with a knife, walked toward the woman while she was using an ATM to take out some cash.
After having a short conversation that left the woman terrified, she gave him all of her money, which was around 2,500 yuan ($372).
But his greed kicked in and he demanded that the woman show him her bank balance. Thinking about his knife, the woman followed.
They turned toward the screen and as soon as it showed her bank balance, the guy changed his mind.
The robber then smiled and returned the woman her cash. The CCTV outside the bank captured him walking off without any money in him. But the woman was left stunned, still trying to process what just happened.
Though the man didn’t take cash, the knife he held and the threats he made were real. He was detained by police and netizens have called him the modern day Robin Hood.
