Roger Federer, one of the world’s best tennis players, has opened his heart to the families most affected by the coronavirus pandemic in his native country.
To assist those struggling to get by as over 10,000 Covid-19 cases have been reported in Switzerland, Federer has announced he and his wife donated ₣1 million ($1 million).
“These are challenging times for everyone and nobody should be left behind,” the 38-year-old tennis superstar who has won twenty Grand Slam singles shared in his Twitter post.
“Mirka and I have personally decided to donate one million Swiss Francs for the most vulnerable families in Switzerland. Our contribution is just a start. We hope that others might join in supporting more families in need. Together we can overcome this crisis! Stay healthy!”
The donation follows as prominent figures across the Atlantic are uniting in making sizeable donations to overcome the pandemic.
One of the Good Samaritans is the former California Governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, who donated one million dollars to the Frontline Responders Fund.
In his announcement, the Terminator actor also urged his fans and supporters to follow his example and contribute whatever they can to the common cause – suppressing the pandemic.
“I never believed in sitting on the couch and complaining about how bad things are, I always believed we should all do our part to make things better,” the 72-year-old said in his Instagram video.
“This is a simple way to protect our real action heroes on the frontlines in our hospitals, and I’m proud to be part of it. I donated 1 million dollars, and I hope that all of you who can will step up to support these heroes. Go to the link in my bio to help out.”
Previously, several other prominent figures have come forward with sizeable donations of their own.
Singer and entrepreneur Rihanna has pledged to donate a staggering $5 million to health workers and communities most affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
As the 32-year-old ‘Umbrella’ hitmaker revealed, she’d be donating the funds through her charity in order “to immediately mobilize a broad response working with on-the-ground partners.”
According to the Clara Lionel Foundation, one of the main goals of the donation is to ensure that “frontline health workers and marginalized communities” get the resources needed to battle the COVID-19 pandemic and stay safe.
Actress and entrepreneur Jessica Alba, on the other hand, has pledged to donate three million diapers to those struggling amid the pandemic.
As the 38-year-old Hollywood actress and the founder of The Honest Company revealed in her Instagram post, her company pledged a massive donation of baby care supplies including millions of diapers among other stuff.
“Snuggling with my littles feeling grateful and emotional as we’ve been adjusting to this new normal – I can’t help but think of all the families with babies & young children who aren’t getting what they need to get by,” Alba wrote in her post accompanied by a photo of her and her son Hayes.
“My company @honest pledged today to donate 3M diapers 20k personal care products and 30k wipes to @baby2baby – but the need for these families includes so much more… #staysafe #practicekindness #sendinglove to you all.”
