Ron Leibman is an Emmy-Award-winning actor who was well known for playing the role of Rachel Green’s father in the “Friends” as Dr.
Leonard Green, has passed away at the age of 82.
According to the Hollywood Report, Leibman passed away on Friday because of pneumonia, which he had been battling for a long time.
He was very popular for his role as the mean dad of Rachel (Jennifer Aniston) in the hit TV sitcom from 1990 to the 2000s, but before playing his role, he turned down his spot for the sitcom.
Thanks to his daughter, who is a big fan of Friends and allowed him to change his mind completely, for which he came into terms and said yes to the role he was offered.
However, playing Dr. Green has earned him a good deal of recognition in his decade long acting career. Looking back at Ron Leibman’s body of work, there are roles he had played in numerous movies, TV shows, and theater.
In the year 1979, Leibman earned himself an Emmy Award for his role as Martin “Kaz” Kazinsky from the CBS series Kaz, which was co-created by him in the process.
In this drama, Leibman portrayed the titular character of a car thief who turned into a criminal attorney.
The drama was of 23 episodes and Leibman commented it to be short-lived and well-remembered since the drama was canceled right after he received an Emmy.
He was also nominated for the Golden Globe Awards in 1987 for a supporting role in the TV film, Christmas Eve. Other than being active on television, Leibman was also a theater actor, which allowed him to take home a Tony Award in the year 1993.
The New York native also portrayed as Roy Cohn in the fictional version of Senator Joseph McCarthy’s Angels in America: Millennium Approaches that earned him Pulitzer Prize.
However, he also appeared many notable movies like the Slaughterhouse-Five, Where’s Poppa? And Norma Rae. His most recent work was lending his voice to Ron Cadillac on Archer.
Ron Leibman will be always be remembered as Dr. Green to the entire world and he is survived by his wife, Jessica Walter according to the reports from THR.
