Tensions between the BBC and the royal family are at an all-time high ahead of the airing of a controversial new documentary about Prince William and Prince Harry’s rift, Metro UK reported.
The two-part documentary is titled The Princes and the Press, and it is expected to include unconfirmed reports that the brothers had fought over Harry’s decision to step down on his duties as a senior royal.
Now, reports said that Prince William along with the Queen and his father, Prince Charles complained about the BCC show.
Moreover, the royals reportedly threaten to boycott future projects with BBC for the reason that they were not been given a preview of the documentary before it airs in the UK.
According to Today presenter Amol Rajan, the docu-series showed how the princes’ relationship with the press changed following the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
Metro reported that the second episode focused on the turbulent period between 2018 and 2021.
There were also reports that there are fears over whether the documentary will repeat the allegations that Prince William’s aides leaked negative stories about Harry to tabloids.
A source from the palace told Mail Online that the BBC documentary was ‘tittle-tattle’ but it had left the Queen really ‘upset’.
Meanwhile, the critics questioned the timing of the docu-series, especially that the Queen is known to be recovering after weeks of terrifying health issues.
BBC guidelines are expected to require all news and documentaries to offer rights of reply as appropriate, Metro UK reported.
However, the former head of BBC’s TV News, Roger Mosey, said that the program should have at least been shown to palace officials in advance before it airs to the nation.
“It scarcely needs saying, but the BBC is absolutely right not to show previews of documentaries to Palace officials,” Mosey said in a tweet.
At the time of this writing, the news network has declined to comment on the matter.
“The program is about how royal journalism is done and features a range of journalists from broadcast and the newspaper industry,” the spokesperson said in a statement.
