Kelly Herron was battling alcohol addiction for many years.
Since 2015, she made a personal decision to leave alcohol behind. And in November she was a happy, free soul. She was no longer chained in the bondage of alcoholism.
Therefore, Kelly found Solace in the running. Actually, carrying out this activity helped her to remain healthy and focus on what was most important in her life.
Apparently, her new resolution was amazing. Actually, it was impressive. She decided, in 2016, she was going to turn on a new life completely. Therefore, she made a resolution to run a race every month. Due to her resilience, hard work and determination, she was listed as one of the marathoners in an upcoming race in 2017.
As usual, on March 5, 2017, Kelly was training for her upcoming marathon at the popular Golden Gardens Park. When she was four miles into the run, she felt the need to help herself. Therefore, she took a break to the nearby public restrooms.
But, she did not know that this break would come at a cost.
Apparently, a man famously known as Garry Steiner was hiding in the washrooms. Actually, he was a registered sex offender from Arizona.
While drying her hands, she had these strange feeling. At first, she shrugged off the sensation. But when she lifted her head and faced the mirror, she was received by the site of a bloodthirsty guy ready to pounce on her. Yes, she was shocked. Thankfully, three weeks earlier she had taken a defense course and hence she was prepared to face the battle.
Immediately, Garry took hold of her and razed her to the ground. There and then, he started pulling off Kelly’s pants aggressively.
Consequently, she started screaming as she tried to defend herself using the skills she had acquired. And that is when all hell broke loose. When Garry noticed that this young lady was good at blowing some punches and kicks, he used his strong masculine hand and slapped Kelly. Apparently, the slap was too heavy for her and immediately her body fell to the ground.
Now, she was lying on the ground helpless, and Garry was on top of her. Hot flashes of tears ran down her cheeks as her mind went through all the crazy ordeals that were about to happen. On the hand, Garry was still busy trying to pull down Kelly’s pants so he could use them to tie her hands to the wall.
Luckily, Kelly remembered a phrase that her instructor used to repeat often. “This doesn’t have to be a fair fight and always put hard bones in soft fleshy places.”
Gaining her energy back, Kelly pounced on the suspecting rapist. Using her hands and fingers, she scratched his face while screaming out for help. Luckily, the punches that she gave were enough to blindfold Garry. Immediately, she pushed him back and managed to slither away from his grasp.
Once she was out on the open, a passerby holding a carabiner headed to her call for help. Immediately, they used the Carabiner to lock the attacker in the bathroom.
Luckily, the police responded on time and salvaged the situation. And, Steiner faced charges of attempted rape and second-degree assault.
Though, Kelly’s love for keeping fit did not end with one rough encounter. No! Instead, she picked herself up and armored herself with the required self-defense tactics. Now, she is more than willing to get back on track.
