Rust production has encountered another major setback after it was revealed that a crew member faces arm amputation.
Just weeks after the Santa Fe on-set incident during which veteran actor Alec Baldwin accidentally shot and killed photography director Halyna Hutchins, the western movie’s production has suffered another blow after a crew member got bitten by a venomous spider.
According to the reports, rigger and lamp operator Jason Miller was bitten by a highly-venomous brown recluse spider while packing up the equipment following the deadly shooting.
Days after the bite, Miller began suffering from harsh symptoms including sepsis and necrosis – the deterioration and death of body tissue.
It has now come to light that the worker faces losing his arm and that the doctors might be forced to perform amputation to save his life.
Following the on-set accident involving a spider bite, Miller’s family started a GoFundMe fundraiser in an attempt to help the man “through this painful and challenging time.”
“Jason Miller, IATSE Local 480 pipe rigger and lamp operator, is in need of our support. Jason was working as part of the wrap team on the production ‘Rust’ at Bonanza Creek when he was bitten by a brown recluse spider,” the page reads.
“In a matter of days he experienced severe symptoms including necrosis of his arm and sepsis. He has been hospitalized and endured multiple surgeries each day as doctors do their best to stop the infection and try to save his arm from amputation.
“It will be a very long road to recovery for Jason if the medical team at Abq Lovelace is able to save his arm. If under worse circumstances he loses his arm, this is a life-changing and devastating event for Jason and his family.
“For any who are able to support and offer contributions to help Jason get through this painful and challenging time, it would be incredibly helpful and greatly appreciated.”
Our thoughts are with you, Jason. Wishing you a speedy recovery!
