A woman who was born on the leap day in 1936 and dubbed the world’s “oldest 21-year-old” was treated to her first ‘legal’ glass of gin in hilarious Ryan Reynolds’ gin brand ad.
Arlene Manko is an 84-year-old lady who was dubbed the world’s “oldest 21-year-old” due to being born on the leap day of February 29 in 1936.
While Manko may be 84, she had just recently officially celebrated her 21st birthday due to the fact that she only gets to experience February 29 every four years.
To commemorate the special occasion, Manko has also appeared in Ryan Reynolds’ hilarious ad for Aviation Gin in which the woman was seen enjoying her first ‘legal’ drink.
In the ad, it was revealed that Arlene is not an actress before she was interviewed about her life. The senior woman was also seen stopping by at a liquor store where the cashier carefully inspected her ID before letting her walk away with alcohol.
“I was technically five years old when I got married. I had seven kids in ten years. Do you think sometimes I didn’t want a drink?” Manko said.
“Following in the rules and doing what you’re told is important to me because that’s what I was taught. You don’t get in trouble when you do what you’re told.
“Thirty thousand six hundred seventy-nine days I’ve waited to turn 21.”
And now that Manko finally ‘turned’ 21, she was more than happy to participate in Reynolds’ Aviation Gin ad.
“We wanted her first legal drink to be Aviation Gin,” Ryan said in a voiceover as the pensioner took her first ‘legal’ sip of the drink.
Manko then went on to say she “didn’t know who Ryan Reynolds was” when his team approached her for the ad to which Reynolds responded by saying: “Ignore her. She’s been drinking.”
