Ryan Reynolds posted an emotional tribute video to comedian John Candy, who was found dead in a Mexican hotel room on March 4, 1994, while working on his last movie, Wagons East.
The Canadian actor is thought to have died from a heart attack, however, his official cause of death has never been revealed.
“It’s the 25th anniversary of John Candy’s passing. We cooked up a small tribute to a comedic genius and Canadian hero. If you haven’t seen much of his work, take a look at his films. He was a treasure. Thanks to @chriscandy4u and @therealjencandy,” Reynolds, a fellow Canadian, wrote alongside the video, thanking Candy’s kids Christopher and Jennifer.
Set to Paul Young’s “Everytime You Go Away,” the clip first introduces all of Candy’s most famous characters before showing some of his most iconic and hilarious moments.
Many people commented on the video thanking Reynolds for posting the clip as well as reminiscing about their favourite Candy moment.
John Candy’s daughter Jennifer wrote: “This made me cry. It’s so amazing and sweet! Thank you, 25 years tomorrow. Wow. He has so many people that absolutely love him, he was one of the best.”
A fan commented: “John Candy was a true comic genius. Uncle Buck was an INCREDIBLE MOVIE as were many of his other movies. #RIP indeed.”
Another said: “REST IN PEACE, my friend. You were such a part of my life growing up. Every single movie was just great. But Uncle Buck, Harry Crumb and TGO stand out. SUCK MY WAKE!! Uncle Buck on the Home Theater tonight. Awesome tribute RR!!”
“I remember like it was yesterday. John Candy truly was a treasure who never failed to make us laugh and even cry! He was a gentle soul who exuded kindness with just a smile…always missed,” wrote another.
