A school bus driver of 55 years was put to rest in a custom-made, yellow casket that he designed for himself before passing away.
88-year-old Minnesota-based Glen Davis was a diligent school bus driver and a farmer who started his career back in 1949 after graduating from high school.
For decades, the man drove for the Grand Meadow School District and enjoyed his job knowing that the children, of whom many he knew personally, were brought to school safely.
As his end was nearing, Mr. Davis designed his own school bus-inspired casket and gave his family clear instructions about how he wanted to be laid to rest.
“He just enjoyed the kids and driving the bus so much,” Lisa Hodge, the man’s daughter, said in an interview with Brainerd Dispatch.
As the family added, Davis believed that being put to eternal rest in a custom-made casket was the perfect way to showcase his love for the job he enjoyed so much.
The idea was brought to life thanks to the cooperation of Davis, his son-in-law who is a graphic artist, and a family friend who owns a funeral home.
“He really got a kick out of it. It’s what he loved about life,” Hodge said as she recalled the time her father was presented with the finished product – a school bus-inspired coffin.
“My dad said that all it was missing is an emergency exit door!”
