It is impossible to even imagine the feeling of being unable to breathe.

That is why medical professionals advise asthma patients to keep their inhalers with them always, no matter where such patients go. Because without the inhaler, the person can even die.

And in one such incident, a twelve-year-old had to lose his life because his inhaler was confiscated.

Ryan Gibbons suffered from a severe asthma attack at his school in Straffordville, Ontario, Canada. It was recess time in Elgin County School, where Ryan went when he suffered the deadly attack.

Apparently, his life could have been saved if his inhaler was not locked in the principal’s office. He would have simply reached for his inhaler, which he always carried with him. W

hen Ryan was struggling for air, his friend picked him to carry him to the office where the prescribed inhaler was. However, the duo did not reach in time, which resulted in the little one’s demise.

Now, Ryan’s mother, Sarah Gibbons, is the leader of a campaign to change this legal policy. She wants lawmakers to pass the bill, named Ryan’s Law, which lets the asthmatic children keep their asthma inhalers with them.

Sarah always sent a spare inhaler with Ryan to prevent such a situation but every time, the school would take it away from Ryan.

The anti-inhaler policy is not only a bizarre rule but also snatches away the chance of surviving in such cases. This is why all the 50 states in the U.S. have passed laws that allow asthmatic children to carry their inhalers with them to their classrooms. However, some American schools still do not allow this.
