Besides being a good human being it is our duty to be a good neighbor as well because people are so busy in their lives and have no idea about their neighbors.

Parents teach their children how they can be good neighbors but here is a school whose teaching method is different and out of the box. This school gives PE credits if students help elderly people in their community.

This school is named as Alternative learning center (ALC) and is located in Dubuque, IA. It imparts good skills in students and has invented a new way to help its students.

In this program, students have to work and then they are given credits for physical education when they submit the hours of their work. Students are allowed to choose any locality. One of their teachers organizes this program.

Tom Hitzler the organizer of this program says that “at the start of the programs students are not much happy and they dislike it. But when they start helping people they feel it be good and this work gives them motivation.

Moreover, students do not do workout these days so it gives them an opportunity to work out.

Students are assigned different things in lawns such as cleaning the lawn by picking up trash, mowing the grass and trimming and cutting the weeds. Students are even assigned to clean the gutters but that totally depends on the will of students as what task they want to perform.

This gives them a chance to get involved with fresh air and a fresh environment which indirectly enhances their blood circulation and strengthens their body parts.

As kids tend to play video games and do not come out of their homes. This activity is not only helping the elderly people but also strengthening the health of students.

This work needs a physical workout and so many elderly people are unable to do it and even the disabled ones so this is a blessing in disguise for them. This activity gives students a feeling of rewards when they receive credits alongside providing social skills to students.

The Alternative learning center lays stress on unique teaching methods than traditional ones. This also helps students in grades as they stay in school and learn so many new things. This kind of strategy should be adopted by schools to initiate new learning methods.
