15-year-old Xavier Parkins has been crowned prom queen after he wore a glamorous dress for their school event.
The teen spent 6 hours preparing and he did his own makeup and hair before going to the party for students from Lees Brook Community School.
Parkins, from Derby, sported a short pink dress with a long train. He also wore pastel heels to match his outfit for the event at Pride Park stadium.
Even though he admitted it was ‘scary’ to wear drag in front of other students, Parkins said it was ‘amazing’ afterward.
His proud mother, 45-year-old Sharnee Parkins, said: “I’m totally humbled, I can’t imagine where you get the courage at the age of 15 to do that, it is so brave.”
The mother-of-four also explained how her teenage son had wanted to be awarded best dress as it is not judged according to gender. He was then every happy to be crowned prom queen.
“It was his peers who voted for him which is an accolade because it takes a lot of courage for them to come out and support it as well,” she added.
Xavier went to prom with his friends on a bus and posed for photos outside the venue. His pals also sported beautiful dresses for the event.
He showed off his creative side by working with a dress maker to make sure his stunning short gown was perfect. Xavier also added a ruffled feature across the front and posed for photos holding his long train.
“He wants to be a Drag Queen but he’s very academic too so he could do anything. He’s got a very wise head on his shoulders,” his mother added.
