Twitter users have called a schoolgirl “genius” for trying to guilt-trip her mom into letting her go to a play date.
Katy Dorman, 25, was amused when her daughter Mercedes, 8, sent tearful snaps along with her request to go to her friends’ house on a Sunday night.
The request came at around 8:20 PM just as when the little girl was already in bed. Mercedes, from Scotland, asked her mother: “Please can I go to Ellie and Mason house?”
To which her mom replied: “Not at this time. You’ve been out most of the day, we are just home and you were up at 3 this morning so no chance. You’re going to bed and you’re going to sleep. You can maybe see them tomorrow.”
But even though the youngster was told that it was past her bedtime and she has to go to sleep, she still sent her mom another adorable crying selfie.
Regardless of the charming selfies, the mom still manages to withstand the request and answered saying: “Just stop babe, it’s bedtime Xx.”
And again, little Mercedes tried her luck by saying, “Please mom.”
The tough mom countered, “It’s still a no. It’s past your bedtime.”
The pushy little girl refused to admit defeat with one last hopeful text: “Talk later? Grrr.”
The humorous exchange of conversation by the mother and daughter was posted on Twitter with a caption: “My brain is too much.”
Tough mom Katy has shared that her little “stubborn goat” has enjoyed reading out the positive reactions to their chat.
“The crying face selfies are new,” Katy told The Sun. “She had already been through to ask me in person but I told her no as it was past her bedtime and she was shattered. But she didn’t want to give in, so she stormed away in the huff and then text me.”
“When the schools are on she’s usually in around 7.30 pm – 8 pm so that she’s in bed by 8.30 pm,” Katy continued. “So I don’t know why she thought she’d be able to go out at 8:25 pm but there you go.”
“She doesn’t really understand viral, but I did tell her I’d put her on Twitter and said loads of people are saying how hilarious, cute and adorable she is. She loves that kind of attention, so she enjoyed it,” she said.
“Since she started being able to write and draw, she’s always given me letters and wee cards,” Katy added. “Now because she’s got a phone she’s so excited to text, so she always messages me.”
“We do argue because we’re very similar though,” Katy said. “She’s a stubborn goat.”
The viral tweet has already amassed almost 200,000 likes and 15,000 retweets as social media users admired Mercedes for her unwavering efforts.
“Kids are born negotiators, I would have given in to my daughter by now,” one user commented. “Not my sons, but definitely my daughter.. lol.”
“Deffo going to use this tactic on my husband if I don’t get my way,” a second one joked. “Genius idea.”
“I need you to know that your kid is literally hilarious,” a third one added.
