Scientists Told People To Stop Reproducing Because Of Climate Emergency

In an open letter presented in the BioScience journal, scientists have urged people to stop reproducing and said we have to reduce the population in order to save the planet.

The paper was signed by 11,000 scientists from around the world who joined arms in order to address the issue of climate change and degrading ecosystems.

“We declare, with more than 11,000 scientist signatories from around the world, clearly and unequivocally that planet Earth is facing a climate emergency,” they wrote.

“Still increasing by roughly 80 million people per year, or more than 200,000 per day, the world population must be stabilized — and, ideally, gradually reduced — within a framework that ensures social integrity.”

As reported by Bloomberg, the open letter went on to suggest that the scientists claimed they feel obliged to “warn humanity of any catastrophic threat” in an uncensored way.

In their letter, the scientists also weren’t forgiving to those who are allegedly to be blamed for our current situation.

“The climate crisis is closely linked to excessive consumption of the wealthy lifestyle. The most affluent countries are mainly responsible for the historical GHG emissions and generally have the greatest per capita emissions,” they suggested.

“Profoundly troubling signs from human activities include sustained increases in both human and ruminant livestock populations, per capita meat production, world gross domestic product … Encouraging signs include decreases in global fertility (birth) rates.”

While activists have applauded the scientists for stepping forward and speaking boldly of the issues at hand, the open letter, as expected, was also met with a fair dose of criticism.
