A distraught dog owner has spoken out after a rogue seagull appeared out of nowhere and snatched her Chihuahua right from under her nose before flying away with the pooch in its beak.
Becca Hill was enjoying the summer heat in her garden in Devon, UK, when a big seagull plunged at her four-year-old Chihuahua and took it away.
As Becca claimed, the seagull flew away with Gizmo the dog in its beak.
Following the dognapping that left the owner in tears, the 24-year-old spoke out on social media and pleaded with the public to help her find Gizmo.
“My partner was in the garden putting the washing out at the time and suddenly he saw it swoop down,” Becca said in an interview with Devon Live.
“It carried Gizmo a fairway as we couldn’t see him anymore. I have no idea if he was dropped or where he is now.”
As the 24-year-old added, she never expected something like this to occur despite the fact that her dog is of small size and that seagulls had previously been reported for snatching dogs in the area.
In 2015, 57-year-old Niki Wayne was shocked to find her Chihuahua pecked to death by a large flock of seagulls that attacked the pooch after it managed to escape the house.
Speaking of the incident, RSPB spokesperson said:
“This must be extremely upsetting for the dog’s owner. Fortunately, these types of incidents are very rare and not typical gull behavior.”
