Sometimes, it is important to remember that it is not necessary to take pictures of everything – especially when a life is at stake.
An injured seal pup passed away after it was washed up on a beach in Dorset. However, people trying to take photos with it made the animal retreat back into the sea.
The seal pup had severe injuries to one of its flippers after a fishing line cut into its bone when it was washed up on Chesil Beach.
But people noticed the injured mammal right away and tried to take pictures, scaring the seal pup back into the sea.
Several hours later, the seal returned to shore and someone who saw it contacted the RSPCA right away.
Local wildlife expert Derek Davey took care of the injured seal before it was moved to the RSPCA center at West Hatch.
The seal was treated for its injuries but sadly, it passed away.
Davey said that even though the mammal would’ve probably died anyway, its suffering was extended by the delay in its rescue.
“Taking photographs and crowding around it made it go back into the water to get away,” Davey expressed.
“Luckily it later came ashore again hours later. It would still have been the same result had it been rescued earlier but it must have endured quite a sow death by going back into the sea.
“It had a fishing line around its flipper which had dug into the bone and the wound was infected.”
