Sir Sean Connery clasps his loving wife’s hand in one of their final photos taken before he passed away aged 90.
The photo emerged after his wife of 45 years paid tribute to him as her ‘gorgeous model of a man.’
Their picture was taken on their wedding anniversary on May 6 in the Bahamas where the Oscar-winning actor had lived for many decades.
Sharing how her husband’s final months were ruined by dementia, Micheline said: “It was no life for him. He was not able to express himself latterly.
“At least he died in his sleep and it was just so peaceful. I was with him all the time and he just slipped away. It was what he wanted.
“He had dementia and it took its toll on him. He got his final wish to slip away without any fuss.”
She added: “He was gorgeous and we had a wonderful life together. He was a model of a man. It is going to be very hard without him, I know that. But it could not last for ever and he went peacefully.”
It was in May 1975 when Sean tied the knot with Micheline in a private ceremony. The couple met at a golf tournament in Morocco five years earlier.
Sean had separated from his first wife Diane Cilento and Micheline had been married two times before their marriage.
In Sean’s final years, he rarely left the Lyford Cay community where he spent his retirement.
The actor was photographed at his 89th birthday celebration in the Bahamas with his son Jason, 57, and his partner Fiona, 53.
Jason is now an actor, director, and voice actor.
