It allows you to unleash your creativity and create something truly unique. The best part is when you can see the results and this couple’s DIY project turned a useless old room into a beautiful playroom!
Sarah and Steve purchased their beautiful home in California to give them the room to raise their two-year-old son. However when the couple were moving in, Sarah found a strange, small door in their son’s bedroom. As anyone would be, she was curious so she looked inside and found something that the couple would turn into something truly unique for their son.

From what Sarah could guess, it appeared to be a dingy old storage room with a pitched roof. On the floor was old linoleum flooring with outdated wood paneling on the walls and even exposed insulation. For a storage room this worked, but due to the pitched roof and tiny door, the room was unusable for anything else.
Sarah and Steve couldn’t decide what to do with it. So for the time being, the couple hid the door with their son’s dresser so he wouldn’t know of the room’s existence.

The two spent the next year secretly working on the room when their son was away at school. They ripped out the old linoleum flooring and the wooden paneling. They installed floating wood tile on the floor to make it match the rest of the house. They installed drywall and even installed a light fixture and an outlet. With their efforts it was transforming from a dingy old storage room into a beautiful secret room.
While her husband worked on renovating the room, Sarah began to dream up what the room would look like and set out to find the perfect decorations. She searched high and low for the best decorations that would make this room into a true playroom.
After all of their hard work, the room was finally done! You can barely recognize it anymore! All of their effort really paid off and created a truly unique addition to their home and an excellent room for their son to work and play in.

These parents weren’t done yet, though! They decided to set up a series of clues which would lead their son to the secret room where he would discover their hard work.
When their son followed the clues all the way to his dresser, his parents helped him move the dresser and he was absolutely shocked! He could hardly contain his excitement for his new playroom designed especially for him. Now he had a secret place he could go to anytime he wanted!
Their son loved his gift and uses the room constantly. Through his parents’ creativity he has a truly unique room for him to play in and have his own little secret base in. He is sure to cherish this room for the rest of his childhood. It’s incredible how they turned such a dingy room into something truly special!
