A top security official who insisted that the election was secure has been abruptly fired by Donald Trump.
As the president revealed on Tuesday night, Christopher Krebs was fired from his position as the head of DHS’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency.
According to Trump, Krebs made a “highly inaccurate” statement by claiming that the election was secure, whereas the president insists “there were mass improprieties and fraud.”
Despite the president’s claims that the election was rigged, Krebs, who oversaw the 2020 election’s security, maintained that “there is no evidence that any voting system … was in any way compromised.”
“There is no evidence that any voting system deleted or lost votes, changed votes, or was in any way compromised,” the CISA statement read.
“All of the states with close results in the 2020 presidential race have paper records of each vote, allowing the ability to go back and count each ballot if necessary. This is an added benefit for security and resilience. This process allows for the identification and correction of any mistakes or errors.”
Following Krebs’ statement, Trump lashed out at the top security official and called his claims “highly inaccurate.”
“The recent statement by Chris Krebs on the security of the 2020 Election was highly inaccurate, in that there were massive improprieties and fraud – including dead people voting, Poll Watchers not allowed into polling locations, ‘glitches’ in the voting machines which changed … votes from Trump to Biden, late voting, and many more.
Therefore, effective immediately, Chris Krebs has been terminated as Director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency,” Trump wrote in a November 17 tweet.
In his rant, the president went on to claim that his administration was responsible for making the 2020 election “virtually impenetrable by foreign powers.”
“The only thing secure about our 2020 Election was that it was virtually impenetrable by foreign powers. On that, the Trump Administration takes great credit. Unfortunately, the Radical Left Democrats, Dominion, and others, were perhaps more successful!” Trump added.
Just an hour after his dismissal, Krebs acknowledged the decision in a Twitter post.
“Honored to serve. We did it right. Defend Today, Secure Tomorrow. #Protect2020,” he wrote.
Replaced!
