GOP Senator Ben Sasse Tells Republicans To Reject QAnon Conspiracy Theory


A GOP senator has called on fellow Republicans to reject far-right conspiracy theories or face getting consumed by them.

Senator Ben Sasse denounced QAnon followers as he called the far-right conspiracy theory and the insurrection at the Capitol the result of “a rotten seed that took root in the Republican Party some time ago.”

In an essay published by The Atlantic, the lawmaker also branded newly-elected GOP congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who is a QAnon follower, the “cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs.”

“It is the blossoming of a rotten seed that took root in the Republican Party some time ago and has been nourished by treachery, poor political judgment, and cowardice,” the Republican senator wrote.

“Until last week, many party leaders and consultants thought they could preach the Constitution while winking at QAnon.”

Warning other party members, Sasse went on to say that QAnon beliefs pose an existential threat to the GOP and suggested that the Republican party could become “the party of the conspiracist Alex Jones” due to radical views.

“When Trump leaves office, my party faces a choice: We can dedicate ourselves to defending the Constitution and perpetuating our best American institutions and traditions, or we can be a party of conspiracy theories, cable-news fantasies, and the ruin that comes with them,” Senator Sasse added.point 610 | 1
