A senior woman has been dubbed the world’s oldest mother after birthing two healthy twins at the age of 74 years old.
Erramatti Mangayamma had been trying to get pregnant with her husband, 80-year-old Rajarao, for several decades before succeeding.
While the pair never had the chance to experience being parents ever since they tied the knot back in 1962, they now finally have two children of their own.
Following IVF treatment, Erramatti’s dream of becoming a mother has finally come true.
As the couple from Nelapartipadu village in India revealed, the elderly woman gave birth to twins via C-section.
“As she is old, she cannot release eggs so we got eggs from a donor and collected sperm from her husband. Luckily, she conceived in the first cycle itself and she was found to be pregnant this January,” Doctor Umasankar explained.
“It was smooth, as there were no health complications. Each baby is weighing approximately 2kg and both the babies are healthy. I don’t think she will have any major health issues in the post-delivery period.
“However, she cannot breast-feed the babies. But no worries. We can feed the babies with milk obtained from the milk bank.”
Besides becoming a proud mother-of-two, Erramatti has also broken the world record by giving birth at 74 while the previous record-holder gave birth at 72.
“I feel blessed to be able to hold my own baby,” Dalinjer Kaur, the former oldest mum in the world, said according to The Times of India.
“Everyone asked me to adopt a baby, but I never wanted to. I had faith in Almighty, and knew I will bear my child one day.”
