Serena Williams and Andy Murray won their first-ever mixed doubles match with confidence, as Murray battled to remain in Wimbledon post crashing out of the men’s doubles.
The earlier World No. 1 was being encouraged by his mother Judy and wife Kim, on his first day back at Wimbledon subsequent a major hip surgery previously this year.
Murray paired up with 23-time Grand Slam winner Serena Williams, who partner Alexis Ohanian, the co-founder of Reddit, was also a spectator as the pair sailed to a 6-4, 6-1 victory.
It was a sentimental return for Andy, who had not played Wimbledon since 2017, when he lost in the quarterfinals and had made up his mind of being retired from tennis earlier this year.
The pair played against Chile’s Alexa Guarachi and Germany’s Andreas Mies. Murray chose a fine partner in Williams, who has already made it to the fourth round in singles.
After the match, Murray explained that he lost in the doubles previously, which is why all his energy was then focused on the mixed. He added that it was a good beginning and he believed that they played well.
Andy’s mother, Judy, who usually turns out to cheer him, tweeted a photograph of a jar of popcorn and a glass of champagne ahead of his mixed doubles clash calling out the two and saying she was ready.
Fans also camp outside the All England Lawn Tennis Club in the popular Queue with the hope of breaking up the limited number of tickets released every day.
William’s extraordinary rise to distinction has already seen her beat seven-time Grand Slam singles winner Venus Williams in the first round and Slovak Magdalena Rybarikova in the second.
