Shad Gaspard was discovered dead as his lifeless body was washed ashore days after he went missing while swimming with his son.
The 39-year-old former WWE star was swimming with his 10-year-old son on Sunday when a powerful riptide pulled the pair deeper into the sea.
While the lifeguards were able to save the man’s son, who was uninjured during the incident, Gaspard was nowhere to be found after getting taken away by the current.
Days later, on May 20, the former WWE star’s body was found washed ashore the Venice Beach in Los Angeles with the news being confirmed by the Los Angeles Police Department.
“On May 20, 2020, at 1:25 a.m., Pacific Division patrol officers were flagged down by a citizen reporting a body that washed ashore on Venice Beach near 27th Avenue and Ocean Front Walk,” the police department confirmed in a statement to LADbible.
“An investigator from the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office and the Los Angeles Police Department’s West Bureau Homicide responded to investigate. The decedent was identified as Shad Gaspard and next of kin was notified.”
Following the 39-year-old’s passing, family members, friends, and fellow wrestlers paid respects to the former WWE star.
“My prayers and hope for Shad Gaspard’s wife, son and family during this unthinkable time. Man, this is a tough one. A really tough one. Great guy,” Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson wrote in a tribute on Twitter.
“[Shad’s] family appreciates all the love, support, and concern through this horrible ordeal. At this time they are not ready to make any public or official statements to any media outlet and ask all to respect their wishes,” Kofi Kingston, Shad’s fellow wrestler and friend, expressed.
