A Target manager refused to sell an $89.
99 Oral B Pro 5000 electric toothbrush wrongly priced at $0.01 to a customer in Swansea, Massachusetts.
The customer named David Leavitt called the cops and shamed the manager Tori Perrotti on Twitter.
He complained on Twitter: “This @target manager Tori is not honoring the price of their items per Massachusetts law.
I just had to call the police because @target refused to sell me the toothbrush.”
“I did not call 911.
I called the business number for the police and told them it was not an emergency and that they could take their time and explained the situation.
I have not been able to afford to go to a dentist in over three years.
So yes I wanted a good toothbrush and was thrilled to see such an amazing prize on an @OralB but @target refused to honor it and now I have to take them to court”.
As soon as his post went viral, people started slamming him for sharing the manager’s picture and complaining about not selling an $89.99 toothbrush for $0.01.
The post backfired on him as Internet users supported the Target manager and created a GoFundMe page.
The GoFundMe raised $30,000 for the manager who was publicly shamed for just doing her job.
The Target store manager Perrotti thanked the strangers for raising $30,000 to send her on vacation.
She said it’s very nice to see that strangers supported her and even raised money for her.
She told NBC Boston: “My first thought was I wish I had worn makeup to work that day.
It’s so often that people will take the picture and make a meme out of it in a mean way.
So, it’s nice to see there’s publicity out of this to support me and my feelings.”
