A shelter dog who was without a home for nearly eight years has finally been adopted after waiting for a forever home for seven years.
As Missouri-based Dogwood Animal Shelter expressed in a touching online plea before the adoption, Ginger is a good girl who “just needs a second chance.”
“Hi, I’m Ginger, I’ve been here waiting for seven years, nine months, two weeks and two days. I’m a good girl. I promise. I just need a second chance,” the sign posted on Ginger’s cage read.
As the staff of the shelter explained, the pooch had been “unadoptable for quite some time” due to suffering from “behavioral” and “emotional” issues caused by the abusive environment she was trapped in when she was younger.
“She is and has been adoptable. The fact that she would be best placed in a home with no other animals or small children has narrowed the possibilities, but we never give up trying,” the rescuers revealed in one of their videos.
Fortunately, the shelter’s online plea touched the hearts of plenty of dog lovers whereas Ginger’s forever owner offered to give the pooch a second chance at life.
“Ginger has gone home! Her adopter has no children and no pets, has a fenced in yard and experience with dogs with dispositions similar to Ginger’s!” the shelter wrote.
“A huge thank you to Carole Nowicki for posting Ginger’s story, to Scott Poore for re-posting and to every one of you who shared it!
“We’re very grateful to those who cheered us on and kept the faith that Ginger would finally have the loving, comfy home she deserves!”
