A North Carolina father-of-ten was fatally shot by a sheriff’s deputy who was serving a search warrant.
The tragic shooting took place in Elizabeth City on Wednesday morning when an unnamed sheriff’s deputy opened fire on a Black man while conducting a search warrant.
While the Pasquotank County Sheriff’s Office provided scant details about the incident, it has since been confirmed that the deputy who shot the father has been placed on administrative leave.
The authorities, however, so far failed to present the full account of what had happened in the 400 block of Perry Street and whether the suspect was armed during the incident or not.
After the shooting, the man was identified as 40-year-old Andrew Brown Jr, a father-of-ten, by his family members. As WAVY reported, it remains unclear why the father was being served a search warrant. As witnesses have confirmed, however, Brown was shot by a deputy after getting in his car and attempting to drive away.
Though the allegations surrounding the shooting have yet to be verified, relatives of the deceased father insisted that Brown didn’t hurt anyone and that he was unarmed at the time of his death.
Following Brown’s death, several people presented themselves as the man’s relatives.
“I can’t believe this. You see stuff like this on TV but I never thought it would happen in my own family RIP cousin Andrew Brown. U just messaged me last week.. this is crazy,” Brown’s alleged cousin said.
Another cousin wrote: “The last time I saw my cousin in October, we talked more than we ever have. Lots of laughs. Now I know why. R.I.P Jr.”
The case remains under investigation with the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation launching a probe into the shooting. Meanwhile, Pasquotank NAACP President Keith Rivers urged the authorities to release bodycam footage from the time of the shooting immediately.
