Sheriff Showed Up To Calm Down A Young Man With Autism… With Push Ups!


Police officers usually get a bad rap, but one sheriff out of Bradley County reminded us all just how important kindness is when they serve and protect our cities.

For those who have a family member or child with autism, you know the challenges. Their loving attitudes can turn on a dime when things go awry, and can sometimes be difficult to calm down.

For Bubba in Tennessee, his mother knows that police officers are the one thing that can always calm him down when he just can’t seem to see straight.

During one particularly bad fit, Bubba’s mother called the Bradley County Sheriff’s Office for help. What nobody expected was for the officer to get down in the middle of the driveway with the agitated young man and teach him how to channel his stress with push-ups!

Soon, photos of the two were posted on the Facebook page “

Soon after going viral, Bubba has been able to see “The Push-up Deputy” more than once! A fleet of officers delivered the boy a basketball net and a slew of balls and challenged him to a game of pick me up which he giddily accepted.point 296 |

Then, “With much help from Patti Nettles Arnold and her son Trever with the North Georgia Autism Foundation, this is what happened… They brought gift bags with candy and gifts for Bubba to present to Deputy Corey Loftis.point 191 | We brought chips, candy, power bars and drinks to show appreciation for ALL of them.point 261 |
